Clause 3 – How to understand the definition of “rated” in clause 3.1.1 – 3.1.8

There are 7 rated item from clause 3.1.1 to clause 3.1.8 except for clause 3.1.3, such as rated voltage, rated voltage range, rated power input, rated power input range, rated current, rated frequency, rated frequency range.
To summarize the intent of the standard, “rated” represents a set of parameters assigned to the appliance by the manufacturer.

In accordance with the requirements of clause 7, some of the parameters in this rated group usually need to be marked on the rating label; the product designer will determine these parameters according to the user’s needs; the rated voltage and rated frequency are determined according to the conditions of the utility power supply in the place where the product is to be used, and they vary from country to country, so it is necessary to design the product in accordance with the conditions of different countries; here is a reference web page, you can check the information of almost all countries’ power supply conditions; the rated current or rated power input is determined according to the user’s demand, for example, if the user needs a powerful room heater, the designer will design a room heater with a rated power input of 3000W according to the buyer’s demand, on the contrary, it can also be designed for a very low-power room heater, for example, 500W or less.

Before we test according to the standard, we need to confirm the rated parameter values, because many tests in the standard are based on the rated parameter values to set the test conditions, if the rated parameter values are wrong, most of our test results will definitely be wrong.
