Clause 3 – How to understand the definition of “tool”

tool: screwdriver, coin or any other object that may be used to operate a screw or similar fixing means.

I’d like to explain the intent of the standard, which defines a separate tool, in order to distinguish between operations that use a tool and those that do not. For example, if a tool is used to remove a part of an appliance, the standard considers this to be a conscious action by the user; conversely, if the part can be removed without a tool, the operation is an unconscious action by the user. Then for conscious behavior and unconscious behavior, the standard for the results of the behavior to do the protection requirements, is not the same.
Is a key a tool? The author here believes that the key can be defined as a tool, because in the refrigerator product IEC 60335-2-24, there is a special requirement for the refrigerator with a key to open, and inferred from the principle of this requirement, the key can be considered as a tool. In addition, keys are defined as tools in the standard IEC 61010-1.
