L&#8217;isolation suppl\u00e9mentaire, comme son nom l&#8217;indique, est suppl\u00e9mentaire et fait r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 une isolation ajout\u00e9e \u00e0 l&#8217;isolation de base. Cela fait intervenir un principe de base de cette norme, \u00e0 savoir le principe de double protection. Pour tout danger, il doit y avoir au moins deux niveaux ou deux ensembles de mesures de protection. L&#8217;exigence d&#8217;une isolation suppl\u00e9mentaire consiste ici \u00e0 prendre en compte l&#8217;isolation qui peut jouer un r\u00f4le de protection en cas de d\u00e9faillance de l&#8217;isolation de base. La protection ici concerne uniquement la protection des pi\u00e8ces sous tension.
