Een Klasse I toestel zal dus ook een Klasse II constructie bevatten.<br>Voorbeeld: De oven in de onderstaande afbeelding gebruikt een metalen omhulsel en een plastic schakelknop. Wanneer de gebruiker de schakelknop aanraakt, is de knop gemaakt van isolatiemateriaal en kan niet worden geaard. De bescherming tegen elektrische schokken kan alleen berusten op de isolatie van de knop zelf. Er is basisisolatie tussen de spanningvoerende delen in de schakelaar en de schakelknopas, en de schakelknop vormt aanvullende isolatie.
